The Big 8-0!

My grandfather turned 80 this year!  He has had a lot of health issues this year, so it was really special that we got to get the whole family together and celebrate with him.  We met at Salt Grass in Houston, and we had a great time.  The whole family pitched in and we bought him a new big screen TV.  He was completely shocked and didn't know what to say.

Happy 80th Birthday Papa. Even though we don't get to see you every day, just know that we think and pray for you, and please know that you are never far from our minds.

On a related note, it was also Kari's 20th birthday.  I can't wait until next year, so we can do it up right for this little lady.  It is going to be Legend...........wait for it...........I'm really sad that HIMYM is over.  I don't know what I'm going to watch on Monday nights any more...DARY!

LEGIT Youth Service

Our youth group at church, LEGIT, put on a youth service recently.  The kids practiced songs, they filmed skits, and they in general worked hard to make this night a success.

Here is a photo of the group singing.

Pastor Brandon Fender of San Antonio's Generation X came and spoke a powerful message called "Silent No More."

After the preaching was over, we had pizza, nachos, and fun in the youth building.

I am perpetually amazed at the fire and spirit in some of our youth.  They are really becoming a close-knit unit...they are pretty fun too. :)

*I am working on some videos from the service, so I will update this post with a link when I get them finished.

Spring Break 2014

Our spring break started off with a easy Saturday morning.  Emmy played while Mommy cooked breakfast. Daddy mowed the  yard outside.

We love some eggs and piglets at our house.

Bradley and I cleaned out the garage all day and hauled off some stuff.  I found this gem from my junior prom.

JT and his parents came down to pick up their truck.  We had a great time playing around, and I got to shoot some B-Ball with my little cousin.

Sunday afternoon, I got to business and painted my end tables.  It took a couple of hours, but the end result (in my opinion) was worth the work.

Tuesday we drove to College Station to take the second round of Kayela's senior photos.

We had lunch with Rah Rah at Layne's while we were there.

The next day, we headed to East Texas to visit the Valdetero family.  Some people rested on the trip up there.

Two little girls were really happy to be reunited.

Two more little girls (and a boy) were happy to see each other too.

We got to meet MacKenna.

Jason may have had less fun than everyone else that night.

The big kids were really sweet about including Emmy in their fun.  We had an amazing time.

Spring Break was wonderful, and it was the perfect blend of relaxation and productivity that I needed to recoup before crunch time at school.  Of course any time that I get to spend time with my sweet girl is pretty golden in my book. :)

Chalk Paint Class

While at Junk Hippy, I found out about a chalk paint class that happens in my area.  I have looked into these classes in the past, but they were quite out of my price range.  This class was very affordable, and it was very close to home.  I was EXCITED.  I immediately signed up, and I found a friend that wanted to go as well.

At the roadshow, I bought two end tables for my bedroom that I wanted to redo.  I had planned on taking one of them to the class, but I decided I better take something else to start off with.  I went out to my garage and found a chair that I bought for photography sessions.  It was small enough to accomplish in a short time, and I knew it would be perfect.

The class was amazing.  They showed you step by step how to refinish your piece, and the instructors came by every few minutes to see if you had questions and to offer specific technique advise.

It took about an hour and a half from start to finish to get this piece done.  I am super happy about how it turned out, and I can't wait to get started on refinishing some other pieces that I recently bought!

The beginning.

We both chose Santa Fe Turquoise for our paint color.

The first few strokes are the scariest for me.  There's no turning back.

I was scared to sand at first.

After a little prodding, I finally got a little more liberal with the sand paper.

It passed inspection at home too!
