SeaWorld Summer: Trip 2

We headed back to San Antonio for our second trip to SeaWorld.  We filled up the church van and Jake's truck, and we got to the park a little after opening (which is big for us!).   The kids were really excited, and I was super excited by the semi empty parking lot that we were met with.  I don't know if it was the Spurs parade happening downtown that day or the fact that it was an overcast Wednesday, but it was the PERFECT day to be at SeaWorld.  All day long, we walked on to rides, showed up at shows minutes before they started and got good seats, and enjoyed the light day at the park.

The girls took a group photo!

Emmy desperately wanted to ride this the last time we were here, but there just wasn't time.  I made sure it was my first priority today.

Group photo...this is a little out of order.

Emmy and I on top of the ride.  It had a killer view.

IMG_8736

Not too shabby huh?  You can see the whole Bay of Play.

Next Elmo and company were ready for photos and so were we!

The morning Shamu show was great.

We met up with these yoohoos right before lunch.

Seriously.  You can't take them anywhere.

IMG_8758

After our sack lunch, we went to the dolphin cove to pet the dolphins.  We weren't as lucky today.

It was getting HOT, so we decided to change the littles and let them play in the water.

SeaWorld

I got an email a few weeks ago about a buy one get one free special SeaWorld was running on their fun passes.  For the special price, a pair of people could get together and purchase a fun pass for about $35 a person.  This was a great deal, and we shared the deal with our church youth group.  Many of the kids chose to participate, so we had big plans for SeaWorld trips this summer.

The only caveat to the deal was that you had to redeem your passes by the third weekend in May.  Hmm...we were almost there, so Mother's Day Weekend it was!

I decided that I would play fast and loose with my sensibilities, and I left my camera at home.  The following post is full of photos from my iPhone, and I am not sorry.  It was nice to just be in the moment with everyone, and not have to worry about my big camera all day.

Our first stop of the day was at the dolphin tank--Bradley's favorite spot in the park.

Apparently it was his lucky day because we had only been there for a few minutes when this happened.

Day. Year. Life Made.  But seriously, this is his screen saver at work.  I kid you not.

The Azul show is probably my favorite show at SeaWorld.  We have also taken Emmy to it every year since she was born.  Cool Stuff.

After a few rides in the kid area, it was almost time to go home.

Some of us were going home in style.

One quick character meet and greet before we headed out the door.

The only problem with the car ride home is trying to decide how you will fill all of the glorious silence.

Can't wait for more fun trips this summer!

27 Months

Emmy Loves: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Mickey, Minnie, her red tricycle, grapes, her pink flip-flops, the new baby puppies at Nana's house, Doc McStuffins, Henry Hugglemonster, snowcones, pizza, and the band at football games.

Big New Things/Highlights of the Month:

Sea World was a Success-  We had a great time at Sea World in San Antonio, and for the most part, we walked away unscathed.  We did learn a few lessons that I will be filing away in my mental file cabinet for future excursions.
  1. Take plenty (more than you think you will need) of snacks and drinks into the park.
  2. Fill the spray fan bottle with water before entering the park.
  3. Let the toddler lead the group to what they want to do next.  You can guide them in the right direction, but things run more smoothly.
  4. Take frequent breaks to put on sunblock.
  5. Give in and get them a couple of treats.  That might be the thing they remember most about the trip.
  6. Know before getting to the park what you want to see and prioritize that first.  If you don't get to everything, at least you got to see what you most wanted to.

Final planning for Disney World is in the works- We just finished a huge round of arguing, fighting, discussing at my house.  We have decided not we are not going to stay at a Disney resort this time.  Because my dad has decided that he wants to go as well, it is no longer cost effective for us all to stay on site.  We are going to stay a really nice resort in the Downtown Disney area that will cut the cost of our trip almost in half.  When Emmy is a little bit older and can appreciate the ambiance a little bit more, we will go back and stay at Disney.  We have also started talking to Emmy about going to visit Mickey Mouse at his house.  She is starting to get it finally.  Maybe.

She is back at school- Emmy is back at school now, and she has taken the transition in stride.  She loves her new teachers and class, but there are two things that she is enjoying the most.  1. They get to watch movies when they get there in the morning.  2. Her BFF, Abby, is in her class.

She loves the puppies-  The little puppies are up and running.  They chase Emmarie around the house and nip at her heels.  She loves to tattle on them.  I don't know whether she enjoys the attention or the subsequent scolding that I give the puppies more.  All that I know for sure is that things do not bode well for Emmy's future siblings.

Last Fling Before the (School) Bell Rings! {Part 2}

The next day, we got up sort of bright and early to head to Sea World.  There was slight confusion with the hotel breakfast crew about the need to replenish everything close to the end of the morning, but we came away satisfied and unscathed.

When we got to SeaWorld, we were met by a line all the way out to the parking lot.  We had already purchased our tickets, but this was the bag line.  Everyone had to funnel through two small lines with a couple of guys checking bags for outside food and weapons.  It was hot.  It was humid.  It was miserable.  Luckily it only lasted about 30 minutes.

Once we got inside, we made a beeline for the noon Shamu show.  The crowd was pretty light since everyone else had gone off to ride the roller coasters or had stopped at the Azul show.  While the boys grabbed us seats, Wendy and I went to get something to drink.  Of course we had to buy souvenir mugs for ourselves the kids to drink out of.  Wendy also bought some rainbow dip-n-dots for the girls to try.

The Shamu show was great.  They had four Killer Whales performing and the crowd was going wild.  Underneath the pavillion it was fairly cool as well.  The girls watched the show for a while, but in the end, it was the dip-n-dots that really captured Emmy's interest.

We walked around and took in the sights for a while.  The girls were really warm, so Jason and Brad took them through the Sesame Street Bay of Play to cool off.  They loved it!

We made an appearance at the Elmo Rocks show.  Marlee LOVED it because she loves Elmo and watches him on TV.  Emmy was about ready for a nap so she was more interested in lying down on the dirty ground.  She did eventually get up and watch a little of the show.  They had fans going that circulated a nice breeze, so we all really enjoyed it.

After a couple of attempts, we finally got seats at the Azul show.  This is probably my favorite show at SeaWorld.  The combination of birds, divers, synchronized swimmers, and Beluga Whales is mezmorizing for someone of any age.  Any show that can keep a rowdy two-year-old transfixed for twenty minutes is golden in my book.

After this show, we decided to find something to eat since it was already late afternoon.  Imagine our surprise to find all of the restaurants packed with lines out the door.  At this point we made the decision to go see the dolphins, sharks, and penguins and go back to the hotel.  The girls only had a little while left without a good  meal and we were all a little hot and tired by that point.

We hit the dolphin bay first.  This is Bradley's absolute favorite part of the park.  If we let him, he would spend his entire day laying on the side of the pool reaching into the dolphin pond trying to coax them over to the side.  I think he was secretly thrilled that Emmy seemed to really enjoy it as well.  She laughed and giggled as the dolphins swam by and she shrieked when they threw their ball near her.

She had everyone around us laughing when she looked up at Bradley as a dolphin swam by and said, "that dolphin bit me Dadddy!"  Brad tried to reason with her and explain that it never touched her, but she stayed firm in her story.  She even tried to show him the part of her finger that was hurt.  We may need to have another serious discussion about why lying is a bad thing.

IMG_1903

Next we all headed over the penguin building.  Unfortunately, I did not read the fine print on our park map, so I did not see that they turn the lights out in the penguin building at 3:30 for the day to simulate their natural habitat this time of the year.  So...we spent about fifteen minutes soaking up the cold AC and watching a dark aquarium of moving objects.  Did I mention that they had cold air conditioning?

Our last stop was a visit to the shark aquarium.  It was amazing.  Every time we go to SeaWorld, I am taken aback when we walk in and I see how tall and wide the aquarium is.  Emmy remembered Shark Week so she was quick to say, "Here Sharky Sharky."

IMG_1907

IMG_1911

IMG_1917

IMG_1924

She also spotted a clown fish in one of the little aquariums on the way out and yelled out Nemo until Bradley took her over to see him.  Such. A. Sweet. Girl.

Once we had our fill on gazing upon the majesty of the sharks, we made our way out of the park.  Some of us traveled a little faster than others.  We also had to take the obligatory group picture at the entrance.  This would have been a much nicer picture if we had sunglasses and not empty stomachs.

SeaWorld was a much longer post than I had expected, so we will have to do a Part 3 of this series I guess!  Stay tuned.
